In this session, we’ll cover group communication in worker coops which forms a strong foundation for healthy business operations and working relationships. We’ll review different types of meeting structures and roles, and different ways to make decisions, including development of a shared vision.

You Will Learn:
- What kinds of needs should be addressed at meetings?
- What is the difference between majority vote and consensus decision making?
- What are vision and mission statements
- What other types of policies do you want to start with when forming a worker coop

This workshop is taught by
Ashley Ortiz is an entrepreneurial business support specialist with a passion for employee ownership and an equitable economy. She has extensive experience as a technical advisor, business owner, and educator in the cooperative, for-profit, and nonprofit sectors. Ashley was the Cooperative Developer & Technical Advisor at Arizmendi Association of Cooperatives, and was an advisor and educator for The L.A. Co-op Lab. Ashley has a BA in Psychology and an MA in Urban Sustainability from Antioch University. Ashley joins West from Boulder, CO, where she currently works at Rocky Mountain Employee Ownership Center as their Statewide Technical Assistance Specialist.
